Most travelers spend months deciding which cities to visit in Italy.Rome or Florence? Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast? Venice or Lake Como? But one of the biggest mistakes I see isn’t choosing the wrong destination. It’s choosing the wrong place to stay within that destination. I’ve seen travelers stay on the edge of a city to save a little money, only to spend their vacation commuting. I’ve seen people book hotels based solely on price, missing out on the atmosphere that made them want to visit Italy in the first place. The reality is that where you stay often has a bigger impact on your experience than adding one more attraction to your itinerary. A small boutique hotel in the heart of Florence can make you feel connected to the city from the moment you step outside. A countryside stay in Tuscany can slow the pace and turn a trip into a memory you’ll still be talking about years later. It’s one of the reasons I spend so much time helping clients think through not just where they’re going, but how they want to experience a destination. Italy isn’t about checking every box. It’s about finding the places, moments, and experiences that fit the way you like to travel.
