A lot of travelers rush through Italy trying to fit in Rome, Florence, Venice, the Amalfi Coast…all into one trip.But one of the places I still think about most is Verona. Most people know it as the setting for Romeo & Juliet, but what surprised me most was how relaxed and livable it felt compared to many of Italy’s larger tourist cities. Quiet mornings walking cobblestone streets, small cafés tucked into side alleys, evenings in lively piazzas with a glass of wine, and a pace that actually lets you enjoy where you are instead of racing to the next stop. What I loved most about Verona was that it still felt like a real Italian city — a place where people live their daily lives, not just a destination built around tourism. It also works incredibly well as part of a northern Italy itinerary. From Verona, you can easily explore Lake Garda, Valpolicella wine country, Venice, or even continue north toward the Dolomites. Italy is often at its best when you leave a little room to slow down. Sometimes the places you remember most are the ones that were never at the top of the list to begin with. Dan
